Moondoggie Bag

A free knitting pattern

For the longest time I have been wanting to make a knit version of the Copy Cat Bag. I have it ready for today. So I will need to explain the name a little. I wanted the name to go along with the crocheted version, I thought whats the opposite of cats, (well dogs), and I liked how the colors I chose reminded me of the beach, which reminded me about the movie Gidget and her man was named Moondoggie. So there you go; that was my thought process on the name for the bag.

I changed a few things. The biggest being that I used worsted cotton yarn for the bag instead of Lustersheen. With the larger yarn, it's able to be worked up quickly over the weekend.

This bag is the perfect size to throw your kindle or tablet in and small project to go relax at the park or beach to find your own Moondoggie. I lined my bag and added handles. All of these things are totally optional. Try different things to really make it your own.

Yarn: Bernat HandiCrafter 100% cotton 2 skeins colors coral and navy
Needles: size 9 (6.0 mm), I switched to a size 7 (4.5 mm) 24 inch circular needle for the brim of the bag.
Notions: yarn needle to weave in your ends, liner fabric, fabric for handles, thread, sewing machine
Size: 10 in by 10 in
Gauge: 15 st for 4 in and 20 rows
Stitch terms:
k: knit, p:purl, kfb: knit front and back

Instructions

Middle of bag

Cast on 80 stitches using your favorite cast on method

Row 1: With color A, p (80 sts)
Row 2: k (80 sts)
Rows 3-8: repeat rows 1 and 2
Rows 9-16: Change to color B, continue repeats rows 1 and 2.
Rows 17-24: Change to color A, continue repeating rows 1 and 2.
Bind off.

Sides of bag (make 2)

Cast on 12 stitches using your favorite cast on method
Row 1: Wtih color A, p (12 sts)
Row 2: k 3, kfb, k 2, kfb, k3 (14 sts)
Row 3: p
Row 4: k4, kfb, k2, kfb, k4 (16 sts)
Row 5: p
Row 6: k5, kfb, k2, kfb, k5 (18 sts)
Row 7: p
Row 8: k6, kfb, k2, kfb, k6 (20 sts)
Row 9: switch to color B, p
Row 10: K7, kfb, k2, kfb, k7 (22 sts)
Row 11: p
Row 12: k (22 sts)
Row 13- 16: repeat rows 11 and 12
Rows 17-24: change to color A, repeat rows 11 and 12
Rows 25- 32: Change to color B, repeat rows 11 and 12
Rows 33-40: Change to color A, repeat rows 11 and 12
Rows 41-48: Change to color B, repeat rows 11 and 12
Bind off

Sewing your bag together.

First fold the sides in half long ways so stitch 1 is touching stitch 12. Wip stitch row 1 together. Repeat on the other side piece.
Then fold your middle piece together to find the middle stitch and mark it.
Put one side piece and middle piece together with the knit sides facing together.
Wip stitch them together, it won't be stitch to stitch for every color change you will need to skip a stitch for it to come out even.
Repeat on the other side.

When all the seams are sewn together, add a Rim
Pick up each stitch around the bag opening with color A using circular needles, knit 5 rounds and bind off.
Weave in your ends.

Add the lining and handles to your bag.
Go enjoy the beach!

Summer Festival Clutch

A Free Beginner Friendly Crochet Pattern

I've got a great beginner friendly pattern for you all today. The only stitches in this clutch are sc and sl st. It doesn't get easier than that. I have been noticing a trend for the summer of circular clutches and baskets for hand bags. I love the artisan look that is being developed in fashion as of late. So here is my take on the trend.

This is a little clutch is just the right size to have your bare essentials. My girls love it to put their little special things in. I used Bernat Handicrafter for the yarn. I love the color that I chose. It makes it look more like a basket and I finished it with a simple embroidery design. of long stitches to make the flower. I added some lazy daisy stitches for the leaves in a secondary color.

Hook: H/8 5mm

Notions: yarn needle, Button, Sewing thread, 2 colors of embroidery thread

Gauge: 13 sc and 14 rows with sc st.

Stitches Used: sc, sl st

Notes: The clutch is made by making the front and back peices, and the side piece is wip stitched to both front and back to make the wrist strap.

Front and back of bag (make two circles)

Round 1: With an adjustable loop, make 6 sc in the loop, pull the loop tight and sl st into beginning sc. (6sc)

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in the same st, {2 sc in the next sc} Repeat {to} 4 times, sl st into beginning sc. (12 sc)

Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, 2 sc in the next sc, {sc in the next sc, 2 sc in the next sc} Repeat {to} 5 times, sl st into beginning sc. (18 sc)

Round 4: Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next st, 2 sc in the next st, {1 sc in each of the next 2 sc, 2 sc in the next sc}, Repeat {to} 5 times, sl st into beginning sc. (24 sc)

Side and Wrist strap

Row 1: Ch 7, sc in the second ch from hook, sc in each ch. (6 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st. (6 sc)

Repeat row 2 for a total of 75 rows or until it measures 20 inches

Finish off

Assembling the bag

For the front of the bag, embellish with embroidery and add a button to the to the center.
Wip stitch the first 45 sts of the front piece with the first 45 rows of the side and wrist strap.
Repeat with the back side.
Fold the left over rows of the side and sew it together to form the wrist strap.
For button flap, On the back, find the middle sc of unused sts, attach yarn and ch 20, sl st into starting sc, finish off.
Weave your ends

Waterways Cowl

A Free Knitting Pattern

This Pattern gained a lot of inspiration from the color itself. The colorway is called Aquatic Speckle. I wanted to explore the different ways we represent water in knitting. I really wanted the cowl to have the look of water moving through a creek or the different stages of a storm.

It took me awhile to pin point the exact design that I wanted. I actually had the design flip flopped and the cowl was half way done. I decided it needed to be the other way.
I ripped it all out. That was a rough day.
I started again and I'm so glad I did. I love how the different textures effect how the speckles lay in the cowl giving it a striking difference in the middle block.

The pattern starts with a simple eyelet pattern, that grows into the middle cable section, and then back to the eyelet pattern.

Puddles of Love Hat

A Free Tunisian Crochet Pattern

I'm sure I have said this before. I love making baby hats!

I have probably made more baby hats than any other item. It was only natural that I would make a hat to go along with the Puddles of Love Blanket. This hat is made with Tunisian Crochet. To keep it simple it is worked flat and seamed together when you are done.

This hat is a great option to start with if you find the size of the blanket overwhelming. Try the hat first, master the stitches and then you will be ready for the blanket.

Stay Connected

Yarn: worsted yarn 2 colors 1 skein of the main color and scraps of the second color. Model used Loops and Threads Impeccable color gold 100 yrds 2.5 oz
Hook: 6mm Tunisian hook (I used the addi click hook with the 24 inch extension cord)
Notions: tapestry needle
Size: 15 inch circumference
Gauge: 15 sts 13 rows equals 4 inches

Special Stitches:

TPS (Tunisian Purl stitch): (forward pass) Place yarn in front of your work, insert your hook into the left vertical bar of the st below, yo and pull your yarn through. (Return pass): follow instructions in the pattern.

TKS (Tunisian Knit stitch): (Forward pass)working with the yarn behind your work, insert your hook between the vertical bars below the horizontal bars in the st below, yo, pull the yarn through, keep your loop on the hook.(Return pass): follow instructions in the pattern.

M1L (make one left): (forward pass)with yarn behind your work, insert the hook between the stich just made and the vertical bar of the next stitch (Return pass): follow instructions in the pattern.

TKS2tog (Tunisian Knit Stitch 2 togeter): (forward pass) working with the yarn behind your work insert the hook through the left vertical bars of the 2 stitches below, pull the yarn through, keep your loop on the hook. (Return pass): follow instructions in the pattern.

TKS3tog (Tunisian Knit stitch 3 together): (forward pass) working with the yarn behind your work insert the hook through the left vertical bars of the 3 stitches below, pull the yarn through, keep your loop on the hook. (Return pass): follow instructions in the pattern.

Notes:

Keep your tension loose throughout the whole hat.
There is not a lot of stretch in the hat so be sure your gauge is correct so you end up with the right circumference.
Just like the blanket the hat is a pattern repeat of 10 + 1.
