Croton Petra Cowl

A Free Tunisian Crochet Pattern

It has been forever since I have shared a Tunisian Crochet pattern. A whole year in fact. I decided I needed to publish a new one stat. I wanted a cowl that was lacy and chunky at the same time. I also gave it a marled look by crochet two colors at the same time. It gives it a striking effect that makes the stitches stand out. I put this pattern at an intermediate level only because it is a Tunisian crochet pattern.  It only uses basic stitches and it is a 3 row repeat, so it is easy to get into a rhythm with it. I hope you enjoy.

Campfire Hat

A Free Tunisian Crochet Pattern

When I made the Pinevale scarf, I had a rough idea that I wanted to make a hat with the same stitch pattern. I didn't have any more of the yarn that I used for it so I went in I totally different direction for the colors. I'm not disappointed though. I don't think you will be either.

I used Hayfield spirit yarn for this hat. It is some yarn that I won off of ebay. It is a really soft acrylic yarn that has a touch of wool in it. The colors are really vibrant and just scream warmer weather and no more winter doldrums.

This is a hat that is worked with Tunisian crochet. The hat is worked flat from the bottom up and then seamed at the end.

Pinevale Triangle Scarf

A Free Tunisian Crochet Pattern

I'm sure it's pretty obvious in my designs that I love texture. I also love color, but I don't always know what to do with it. Especially when it comes to variegated or hand painted yarns. I don't think I am alone in this but maybe I am. I was gifted this skein of Mushishi yarn. It has got to be some of the nicest yarn I have worked with, and I wanted to really show it off.

I was a little worried about using it for Tunisian Crochet because it's not known for being a stretchy stitch, and the yarn has some silk in it and it is also not known for being stretchy. I gave it a shot and the end result is an incredibly warm full of drape ( I know it's hard to believe) triangle scarf.

I finished it off right before Christmas and it was the perfect accessory to wear for the holiday events. I loved it so much I knew I wanted to make a knit version too. Some of you have probably seen it on Instagram and Facebook already. I'm excited about these new patterns and inspiration.

    Tunisian Spike Stitch Tutorial

    A Free Tunisian Crochet Pattern

I have a new stitch pattern I want you to learn. That means like always I have a new little dishcloth pattern to help you learn. After you learn how to make the dishcloth I will have a triangle scarf pattern that will have the new stitch pattern in it. I'm really excited about all the texture of this stitch.

A lot of times I struggle with finding good patterns that go well with variegated or hand painted yarns. Often times the yarn pools funny or the texture gets lost in all the different colors. I think this stitch pattern really knocks it out of the park for showing of the yarn and the texture.

      Vintage Nursery Blanket

      A Free Tunisian Crochet Pattern

Someone gifted me some of their yarn stash. Some of it was 15 skeins of this vintage Patons yarn. It is a soft baby sport yarn that was begging to be a blanket. I wanted to design a blanket that could be easily broken into to parts to work on separately. In other words I wanted squares, that I could work on on the go and then add them all together when I was done. I also wanted the pattern to have a vintage feel to it to complement the yarn.

Obviously this yarn is no longer available, but you can substitute any baby sport yarn. Or If you want bigger squares you could pick out a worsted weight yarn. Each square took 1 ounce of yarn, so for a 12 square blanket you will need about 13 ounces, when you include the border.

Yarn: Patons Beehive Astra: 100 % acrylic baby sport weight, 1 oz, 13 skeins

Hook: 00/ 3.5 mm steel hook

Notions: Yarn Needle (to weave in your ends), and sew your squares together

Size: each square is 12 inches

Gauge: 8 tks and 8 rows equals 2 inches.

      Stitches used and Special Stitches:

ch, sc, sc2tog, dc, and TKS

sc2tog: Insert hook into stitch, yo and pull through stitch, insert hook in next stitch, yo and pull through stitch, yo and pull through all the loops on the hook.

TKS: (Forward pass)working with the yarn behind your work, insert your hook between the vertical bars below the horizontal bars in the st below, yo, pull the yarn through, keep your loop on the hook.
(Return pass): follow instructions in the pattern.

      Notes:
This blanket is worked in both Tunisian Crochet and regular crochet.

      Puddles of Love Baby Blanket

      A Free Tunisian Crochet Pattern

I love how this blanket turned out. The texture is just wonderful. Tunisian crochet is typically thicker than any other stitch technique, so this blanket is extra squishy. It's the perfect kind of blanket that I love to put on the floor to let baby roll around on and play. I also really love the pop of color edging. You can start the blanket early and then when you know what the baby will be you can add your color of choice for the edging.

I used one ball of caron yarn one pound. I used every inch of it, so you might want to grab two just to be on the safe side. *As of 9/30/2022 I have also made the blanket using 10 skeins of Lion Brand Wool Ease.* Your tension might be different than mine so your yardage might change. I like to keep a really loose tension when I am working with Tunisian Crochet. I think it helps keep it from curling so much, and it helps my hand not hurt so much when working with the longer hook. I would also recommend using a Tunisian hook that has a cord attachment. because this blanket gets pretty heavy and the cord makes it so you don't have to hold it all up.

This is a free pattern. If you choose to purchase an ads free printer friendly version, you will get everything you see in the blog post plus a chart to help you follow along. This pattern is easy to adapt to a different size, but the yardage will change. The pattern is a repeated pattern f 10 +1.

I have made a matching infant hat to go along with this blanket pattern. Go check it out Here!
