Winter Thaw Dishcloth

A Free Knitting Pattern

In February I always get those antsy feelings of wanting winter to be over and for spring to get here. It doesn't help that there is always that one day that comes along in February that gets up into the 60's and melts all the snow, leaving this golden muddy hue in its wake. This time we have seen a whole lot of ice after that thaw. The kids are missing school and going crazy, us along with them. I started this pattern to celebrate the messiness of the season. Even in the messiness there can be beauty.

Just like with all of my tutorials here on the blog, when you are done you will have a dishcloth to use or give away. It's always nice to have something functional to use after we have worked hard to learn something.  The main things you will be learning with this dishcloth is how to do a spike stitch and how to make a decrease using 2 slipped stitches. I'm excited for you to learn these so you can join me in making the triangle scarf with this stitch pattern. (you can find that Pattern Here) There is a sneak peek below.

Tunisian Spike Stitch Tutorial

A Free Tunisian Crochet Pattern

I have a new stitch pattern I want you to learn. That means like always I have a new little dishcloth pattern to help you learn. After you learn how to make the dishcloth I will have a triangle scarf pattern that will have the new stitch pattern in it. I'm really excited about all the texture of this stitch.

A lot of times I struggle with finding good patterns that go well with variegated or hand painted yarns. Often times the yarn pools funny or the texture gets lost in all the different colors. I think this stitch pattern really knocks it out of the park for showing of the yarn and the texture.

    Moondoggie Bag

    A free knitting pattern

For the longest time I have been wanting to make a knit version of the Copy Cat Bag. I have it ready for today. So I will need to explain the name a little. I wanted the name to go along with the crocheted version, I thought whats the opposite of cats, (well dogs), and I liked how the colors I chose reminded me of the beach, which reminded me about the movie Gidget and her man was named Moondoggie. So there you go; that was my thought process on the name for the bag.

I changed a few things. The biggest being that I used worsted cotton yarn for the bag instead of Lustersheen. With the larger yarn, it's able to be worked up quickly over the weekend.

This bag is the perfect size to throw your kindle or tablet in and small project to go relax at the park or beach to find your own Moondoggie. I lined my bag and added handles. All of these things are totally optional. Try different things to really make it your own.

    Summer Festival Clutch

A Free Beginner Friendly Crochet Pattern

I've got a great beginner friendly pattern for you all today. The only stitches in this clutch are sc and sl st. It doesn't get easier than that. I have been noticing a trend for the summer of circular clutches and baskets for hand bags. I love the artisan look that is being developed in fashion as of late. So here is my take on the trend.

This is a little clutch is just the right size to have your bare essentials. My girls love it to put their little special things in. I used Bernat Handicrafter for the yarn. I love the color that I chose. It makes it look more like a basket and I finished it with a simple embroidery design. of long stitches to make the flower. I added some lazy daisy stitches for the leaves in a secondary color.

    A Tisket A Tasket Basket

    A Free Crochet Pattern

As you can see from the picture above I was meaning to have this pattern out before Christmas, my design schedule changed when I made the Etching Scarf Pattern. I think this date will be better anyway.

Easter is only a couple of months away. Do you like to make Easter baskets for your loved ones? I have made a few different ones. I made a really sturdy one with fabric strips and I have made a coil basket with thread and t-shirt yarn.

I really like this basket, because it looks so much like a woven basket. The tunisian seed stitch is the perfect look for a woven basket. I paired the basket with the attached i-cord edging to give it a modern streamlined look.

If this pattern looks a little hard for you. Don't forget that I have a practice pattern available for this basket. the A Trisket A Tasket Dishcloth will help you go through all the stitches need to make the basket.

This basket is easy to adjust in size. If you want a bigger basket I would suggest switching to a Tunisian hook. The math for making it bigger would be the width of stitches plus 20. So if you want a basket that is 30 stitches wide, You will want to make the pattern 50 rows tall. Do you see what I am saying? I'm sure that it will make more sense when you read through the pattern.

Where Can I get this pattern?

    Douglas Fir Dishcloth

    A Free Knitting Pattern

This will be my last Holiday Gift Pattern for 2017. It's crazy that 2018 is so close upon us. Almost 20 years ago we were going crazy over Y2K. I'm so happy the clocks kept going.

Do you have a favorite Christmas tree story? When I was a little girl my family liked going to this out in the middle of nowhere tree farm to pick out our tree. I remember the first year we did it. We totally miss judged the length of the tree. It was gigantic, and my dad had to spend quite a while trimming the tree to get it to fit in our house. The next year we were wiser and picked out a much smaller one. There are also lots of stories my sister could tell of the cat knocking the tree over on her.

I have a little pattern today to bring back some of those memories. I say little, but this dishcloth is bigger than what I usually make them, because I like little dishcloths. Other people will probably say it is just right at 7 1/2 by 7 1/2

Notions: yarn needle to weave in your ends
    Size: 7 1/2 by 7 1/2 inches
Gauge: 20 st for 4 in and 26 rows
    Stitch terms:
    k: knit, p:purl, k2tog: knit 2 together, bl: back loop, m1: make 1, p wise: purl wise, p2tog: purl 2 together,
    Notes:
All of the rows start with a seed st border, sometimes you will see a (K 2, k,p,k,p) you wil knit 3 in this instance. It is just my way of differentiating the boarder from the rest of the pattern. I have highlighted the rows that there will be multiple repeats for easy finding.
